Nelson has the largest fishing port in Australasia and, as such, is renowned for its seafood.
Shellfish such as scallops and mussels are caught in Tasman Bay and fresh fish caught further
afield comes in daily off the boats.
Nelson’s climate makes it an ideal location for vineyards, orchards and olive plantations. This
creates an abundance of good, fresh food, as well as a thriving local industry in gourmet products,
taking advantage of the produce grown in this fruit bowl of New Zealand. The region is now known
for its olive oil, wines, chocolate, fruit liqueurs, chutneys and preserves, as well as fresh
berries, citrus and pip fruit, while in season.
The Landscape to seascape and Alpine splendour trips both include a sumptuous gourmet picnic
lunch, eaten surrounded by the stunning environment of either the Abel Tasman beaches or high on
Mount Arthur. The highlight of the Wild Northwest tour is a stop-off at the Naked Possum bush café,
where you will be served a platter of local produce.
Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day on all tours and special dietary
requirements can be catered for. And for those who would like to continue their experience into the
evening, there is the additional option of a traditional Kiwi dinner with your hosts.
