Tour overview

The vineyards of Nelson are set amongst exceptional scenic countryside often with a foreground of either rich horticultural land, or ever changing tidal estuaries, and a background of mountains from Mount Richmond Forest Park or Kahurangi National Park.

There are two distinct grape growing sub-regions of Nelson – the Waimea Plains and the glacial gravels of the Moutere Hills

Just as Nelson wine is different from other New Zealand grape growing areas, there are also varietal differences from each sub-region and indeed between each vineyard with perhaps the ethnic background of the winemaker having an influence.

I involve you in an experience like no other as we visit family owned, top boutique wineries selected from the list below, each with a unique story to tell that romantically attaches them to their region.

You may find yourself talking with the winemaker or perhaps wandering amongst vines tasting grapes to be made into the wine you are holding, or matching food and wine, or tasting, overlooking vineyards with incredible views of mountains or sea or enjoying a cheese board in a barrel hall.
